ASCS Northwest star Roger Crockett on road to MRP
Former Civil War Champ and 2009 ASCS NW champion headed south

By Bob Burbach
Marysville CA - April 19, 2012 --- It was learned today that ASCS star and multi-time sprint car champion Roger “The Rocket” Crockett will add his name to the growing list of star sprint car stars heading toward Paul and Kathy Hawes’ Marysville Raceway Park Saturday night. The Medford, Oregon hot shoe will bring his familiar #11 to do battle with the west coast’s brightest sprint car stars.

It was also learned that Clyde Lamar’s famous Tri-C #3c will be in the house as well with former MRP Rookie of the Year Cody Lamar at the wheel. Already entered will be defending series champion Tim Kaeding in the famous Roth #83. The Roth 83 has found its way to the victory platform at the Knoxville Nationals. Two-time KWS titlist Jonathan Allard will be at MRP. 50 time MRP feature event winner and 3 time champion at MRP, Colby Wiesz will try to grab a victory away from the touring pros.

The National ASCS Rookie of the year and the most recent winner of MRP’s prestigious Sherm Toller Memorial Race and the 2011 Mel Hall Memorial Race at MRP, Kyle Hirst has added his name to the entry list. In addition, MRP’s own 5-time Performance Auto Supply Winged Sprint Car Series Champion Korey Lovell will bring his famous Yuba City Scrap and Steel, Korey Lovell Racing #71 to do battle with the state’s top 410 sprint car drivers.

Another local star and champion Cort Dozier will be in the house. Dozier was the 2009 MRP Wingless Sprint Car Champion, but he also finished 3rd in points in his winged car the very same year in a remarkable year long performance. Coming out of retirement this season, Dozier says he will challenge for MRP’s Performance Auto Supply Winged Sprint Car Series title.

Also entered is former KWS champ Jason Statler, former MRP Civil War main event winner Andy Gregg, former KWS Speedweek champion Bobby McMahan, rising young star Rico Abreu and Australian native Peter Murphy. Also adding his name to the list is John Michael Bunch who has shown himself to be a formidable threat at MRP.

A legend will also be on hand on Saturday night when three-time USAC National Silver Crown champion and National Sprint Car Hall of Fame member Jimmy Sills makes his return to 410 Winged Sprint Car competition. It’s been a number of years since he has climbed into a 900 horsepower winged sprint car for competitive action in California. At the Marysville KWS event, Sills will sit behind the wheel of the DES Racing No. 6up machine.

In his storied career, Sills has tallied a number of major accomplishments including his three USAC National Silver Crown titles. The “Professor” who prides himself as being a hired driver only has also scored wins at the Mini Gold Cup, the Oval Nationals, the Jayhawk Nationals and a number of other big national events. Sills has claimed wins in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. All in all the Elverta, California driver has been one of the most respected dirt track racers to ever come out of the state. His resume’ however shows some 30 pavement wins as well. Many of Sill’s Outlaw and California 410 successes came in the famous and locally owned Lovell Bros #71 out of Yuba City and in Clyde Lamar's equally familiar #3c mentioned above.

The many time World of Outlaws feature event winner is also owner and operator of the Jimmy Sills School of Open Wheel Racing at Marysville Raceway Park and has trained many of today’s young drivers including NASCAR star Kasey Kahne. Fellow National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Brent Kaeding will also be in action at Marysville Raceway Park Saturday. The driver of the familiar Al’s Roofing Supply No. 69 mount has raced to victories in his career at the MRP clay and will be looking to add another.

Last year’s KWS winner at Marysville Raceway Park, Willie Croft, will be at MRP as well. Last season’s win Croft was a popular one among the racing community and came at the track where he began his sprint car career and took home the honors in MRP’s 3rd edition of the Mel Hall Memorial race in 2001.
