Top guns expected at MRP for Hall Memorial Tune-up.
Burt & Wallace are tied at the top!
Will the “Bounty” stop Misty?

By Bob Burbach
Marysville CA - May 15, 2012 --- Paul and Kathy Hawes’ Marysville Raceway Park will again host the popular Performance Auto Supply Winged Sprint Cars as the featured division Saturday night. The heat is on in the division. Defending champ Billy Wallace and 2007 champ Jeremy Burt are deadlocked at the top of the standings. Both drivers have had significant success at MRP. To make Saturday’s Red Horse Night at the Races even more interesting, some top guns in the division will appear to dial in their cars in advance of the California Sprint Car Civil War Series’ Mel Hall Memorial Race on Saturday May 26th.

All time MRP Performance Auto Supply Winged Sprint Car feature event winner Colby Wiesz will be back after a 2 week hiatus. Wiesz’s absence has dropped him from any possibility of being in the championship point hunt. Wiesz told this observer that he purposely would not be at MRP for a race or two this season. Wiesz’s race to win strategy over the last few years rather than fight for championship points has garnered him a sizable number of feature event trophies. His last MRP championship was won over a decade ago. He won 3 championships in a row starting in 1999. He also has 6 Mel Hall Memorial victories to his credit; far more than anyone else. So Wiesz will be worth watching Saturday night.

Over the last couple of weeks, “win it or wear it” stars like “High Flyin’” Herman Klein, John Michael Bunch and others have tested the MRP clay in advance of the Hall event. With the Hall race paying $2500 to win and it being a California Sprint Car Civil War Series point race, every star in the sprint car sky will be at MRP for that one.

Last week’s feature event winner Brent Dothage is rocket-fast in his new red ride. He had some problems a couple of weeks ago, but he’s on the button again and will be a contender in both upcoming sprint car events. The 3 time champ is just itching for a repeat of last week’s non stop ride to the checkers.

So, for Saturday night a red hot point race between Burt and Wallace will be fought in the middle of a race where sprint car stars will be putting the final touches on their hot rods for the Hall race. This thrill a minute program will begin with winged sprint car qualifying right after hot laps which are scheduled for 6PM. Heat race action starts right after qualifying.

This Winged 360 Sprint Car show this Saturday will be a Contingency Connection event. It is the 4th Contingency Connection offering for the 2012 season in the Performance Auto Supply Winged Sprint Cars. Feature event bonus awards will be available to the winner with Contingency Connection sponsorship decals displayed by the winning driver. The bonuses will be awarded at the track. Winning racers in the Contingency Connection average some $1500 in Contingency Connection bonuses weekly this year.

The Pro 4 Sprinters will complete the open wheeled part of the show Saturday. The MRP Mini Stocks and the Nor Cal Dwarf Cars will also be back to the MRP clay in the slam bang 4-division Red Horse Night at the Races.

Speaking of the MRP Mini Stocks, promoter Paul Hawes has put a $100 bounty on Misty Castleberry after her 3 week run into victory lane. The defending champ has been unbeatable so far this year. She has some stiff competition and it took a hair-raising last lap pass a couple of weeks ago to get to victory lane in that one. Last week after her victory promoter Hawes grabbed the microphone and said that, to the first driver that beats Misty “fair and square” to victory lane, promoter Hawes will toss in an extra c-note. The $400 to win MRP Mini Stock purse is the highest purse paid anywhere for a weekly Mini Stock show. This added feature will get everybody in the class revved up to try to beat Castleberry to the checkers. Beat her “Fair & Square.” It’s worth $500! Can’t wait to see this one unfold!

“MRP…the place to be” Saturday.

Pit gate opens at 3PM. Grandstands open at 5PM. Hot Laps at 6:00. Qualifying after hot laps and the 1st race will go off after qualifying.

Don’t forget to monitor our facebook page during the week; we’d love to hear from you. Every Thursday we give away 2 free tickets at 8PM at the facebook.com page. Updates are constantly being forwarded to the page on race night.

IMPORTANT: 2012 minor releases must be signed by parents for all minors entering the pits.
