New Year’s Playday is on!
Weatherman smiles brightly MRP

By Bob Burbach
Marysville CA - December 29, 2012 --- It’s time to get 2013 going and say goodbye to some of the troubles that 2012 shed on the northern California racing community. Marysville Raceway Park’s annual gathering on New Year’s Day is a go. The weather forecast is for sunny skies and a balmy 54 degrees. The call is much nicer and significantly milder than the area has endured over the last few weeks. So fire ‘em up and let’s turn some wheels in anger at MRP’s annual New Year’s party.

Car and driver are $25.00. A pit pass (alone) is $10.00. All minors admitted to the pits must have a 2013 minor's release signed that day by a parent. There is some very touchy stuff going on with the insurance companies these days…so do it right or you can’t get a minor into the pits. Grandstands are free.

It’s a casual day and the track will open at 10AM. The track will be open at for hot laps in every division until 4PM. The concession stand will be open with a limited menu and plenty of hot coffee.

From an earlier release: Promoter Hawes is putting the finishing touches on the 2013 schedule with an emphasis on the MRP local classes. Of course the wildly popular MRP Winged Sprint Cars will be the premiere division and present another full season of wicked-fast sprint car racing. Marysville Raceway Park’s car counts in 2012 season were the highest in that division. Promoter Hawes is working feverishly on the MRP surface and configuration to maintain the spectacular high-speed, multi-groove racing showcased so often in late season action last year.

While dates are subject to change until the schedule is officially announced, the 4th Sherm Toller Classic will kick off the season in early March. The season’s first race and the only race scheduled for that date will bring a fine field of Winged and Wingless sprinters to open the 45th MRP season.

Promoter Hawes will schedule two California Sprint Car Civil War Series events for 2013; California’s premiere winged 360 sprint car series. MRP will host round 1 of the series. The mid-season Mel Hall Memorial Race will also be a Civil War event.

The fenders will be roaring again at MRP in 2013. The ever popular Super Stocks, Hobby Stocks and MRP Mini Stocks will again present full seasons of competition. The Pro 4 Sprinters will also be at MRP in 2013 with a limited schedule of events.

The biggest buzz is being heard in the open wheeled ranks as promoter Hawes will pen in a full season of MRP Wingless Warrior Spec Sprint Car events after a one year hiatus. Additional dates for other traveling classes will be offered and interspersed with the MRP weekly point races.

This year the schedule again will show fewer divisions being presented weekly. Good things happen when that happens: promoter Hawes will save the track and MRP will conclude its program in a time frame that allows everyone to experience the featured attractions with plenty of evening to spare. With more and more families involved, MRP will be a very fan-friendly place to be. Promoter Hawes has also listened to the drivers and car owners who have said that getting back home at a reasonable hour after a night of racing is a real benefit. A vast majority of 2012 MRP events concluded well before the 10PM hour!

It cannot be said enough that a continued heavy emphasis on our primary classes will be foremost on the agenda of promoter Hawes. Promoter Hawes has a very healthy weekly winged 360 program in place. The rejuvenated Super Stock class is a fan favorite and the MRP Minis continue to be the fastest fendered 4 bangers presented anywhere. Both classes are offering the highest fendered weekly purses for these classes anywhere.

So, come on over and turn some wheels in anger and we’ll see you on New Year’s Day at MRP! Remember, grandstands are FREE!!!!
