$1500 to win for Winged Sprints Sat
Signature event “Rich Dozier Classic” on tap
Marysville CA -
July 30, 2013 ---
Next Saturday night August
3rd the 7th Annual Performance Auto Supply Rich Dozier
Classic will be run at Paul and Kathy Hawes’
Marysville Raceway Park. The race was postponed from
its original date earlier this month due to weather.
This year it is a signature event on the MRP Winged
Sprint Car schedule. The feature event will pay $1500
in cash to win in that class. Rich Dozier’s
Performance Auto Supply will celebrate 45 years of
support of Marysville Raceway Park. In addition the
Legal Shield Quick Time Shootout will pay $100 for
fast time at this event. The Richmond Gear bonus will
be offered to the 2nd place finishers in both sprint
car classes and the Contingency Connection Bonus
program will offer some $1100 in additional bonuses to
the winner. This annual celebration will also include
a full program of MRP Wingless Sprint Cars, MRP Super
Stocks and MRP Hobby Stocks.
Championship point leader Billy Wallace of Grass
Valley in Mark Moore’s Sprinter will be gunning for
the rich 1st place prize as will fellow Grass Valley
resident Jeremy Burt in his GEICO Sprinter. Also in
the field will be comeback sensation of the decade and
easily one of the most popular sprint car drivers ever
at MRP, fan favorite Mike Monahan out of Sparks,
Nevada in his sparkling blue Superior Hydraulics hot
rod. The former champion of the division is 3rd in
points and is having a great season at MRP after
enduring debilitating injuries last season. Burt is
also back after breaking his back at MRP’s final race
of 2012. Wallace, Burt and Monahan have all visited
victory lane this season.
The Performance Auto Supply team out of Marysville
with veteran drivers Cort and Brandon Dozier will have
a great shot at bringing home the dough in the race
named after the patriarch of the Dozier family. A 3rd
entry is expected with Derek Dozier behind the wheel.
Brandon Dozier won the Billy Knoop Memorial Race last
Saturday night in advance of this week’s event.
time champion, Kelseyville’s Brent Dothage, will be
back in the saddle for the Rich Dozier Classic as will
be MRP’s own “5-time” Korey Lovell. Lovell has been
rocket fast after a few weeks off and has a trio of
end place finishes and two Legal Shield Fast Time
Shootout wins to his credit in his last three
appearances. Lovell is just itching for a shot at
victory in this race.
Veteran racer Peter Paulson from Woodland, will have a
perfect opportunity to get his second win of the
season in the Rich Dozier Classic. Last year’s Rich
Dozier Classic winner Heath Hall out of Oroville has
switched cars for the 2013 season and will be hungry
for victory in the Hight Family 14h. 3 time champion
Colby Wiesz is expected. The “Colfax Comet” won the
1st Performance Auto Supply Rich Dozier Classic.
With the increased purse Saturday it is expected that
out of town stars from other areas of California,
Oregon and Washington will head to MRP for one of
MRP’s signature events. It will be a wild 100 MPH,
$1500 to win war.
The MRP Wingless Sprint Cars will also be offered as
Marysville’s Jeremy Hawes tries to stretch his win
streak to 3 in a row in his quest for a championship
in that division. Point leader Rowdy McClenon of
Anderson will be there to try and ruin Hawes’ night.
Cort Dozier will do double duty in this event and try
to regain lost ground in the very competitive MRP
Super Stock Series. Mechanical issues caused Dozier to
drop out of the top spot in the point standings as
Auburn’s Ray Trimble not only won last week, but
grabbed the point lead as well. Defending champ Jeremy
Hammons of Yuba City will lead the MRP Hobby Stocks
into battle this Saturday night as well. All classes
will have additional purse money offered.
The Doziers and Rich in particular, have supplied
parts and equipment to thousands of racers and owners
over the years. Nicknamed “Pops”, Richard Dozier is a
racer, pure and simple. So, it’s only fitting that we
should all gather at the venerable raceway in its 45th
year and once again and turn some laps in anger in
honor of Richard Dozier and his Performance Auto
The pit gate opens at 3PM. Grandstands open at 5PM.
