Trimble and Merritt get titles.
22nd Gold Fever Sprint Open Sat

By Bob Burbach
Marysville CA - September 29, 2013 --- Auburn’s Ray Trimble and Marysville’s Shaun Merritt secured their respective titles this weekend at Paul and Kathy Hawes Marysville Raceway Park. The MRP fendered finals were held in conjunction with the annual West Coast Dwarf Car Nationals won by the bay area’s Cameron Diatte. For more on the dwarf car event please go to

The MRP Mini Stock clash Friday night was another easy cruise for Misty Castleberry as she led every lap. Merritt secured the title by starting the feature. No other driver could challenge his season-long point accumulation after the green flag flew. Merritt has really been in control since race 3 of the series, though local racing veteran Howard Law stayed close. Law finished 2nd on Friday with Merritt an easy 3rd.

It was a similar scenario for Trimble, who, by starting the MRP Super Stock feature on Saturday, also secured his title in the same way. Marysville’s Cort Dozier scooped up another victory after early race leader Sean Hulsey miscued while in the lead by more that a straightaway. Dozier swept the program by winning the heat race.

Next week MRP presents the 22nd Gold Fever Sprint Car Open. The 1st event in the series staged in 1991 was won by nationally recognized sprint car legend Jimmy Sills. The 30 lap feature will pay $2000 to win. A companion Wingless Sprint Car event will also be offered.
