More stars enter “Battle of Marysville”
$40,000 Civil War starts Sat at MRP

By Bob Burbach
Marysville CA - March 12, 2014 --- This is turning into a classic sprint car event. In addition to all of the stars headed toward Marysville Raceway Park Saturday (see earlier press releases below) some additional names of note have made their intentions known.

It was great to hear that spectacular high side runner “High Flyin’” Herman Klein will return. Klein is an MRP graduate who is starting his 22nd season as professional sprint car driver. Some of Klein’s rides on the rim at MRP are legendary. With the new clay the MRP surface should fit Klein’s style perfectly. Watch him go forward. 2013 Rookie of the Year in the California Sprint Car Civil War Series Matt Peterson will appear Saturday as well.

Another driver headed to MRP is perennial Civil War favorite Andy Gregg. Gregg is a relentless charger and claimed victory from 13th starting position in a recent Civil War event at Marysville Raceway Park. Gregg has also seen some tough luck come his way in other events he has entered at MRP. But, Gregg stays on the gas and is one ogf the most feared drivers on the circuit.

Young west coast star Koen Shaw will bring his familiar #88 to the show Saturday. Shaw has typically run the west coast tracks with infrequent visits to Marysville. He, however was one of the quick guys at the last Civil War show and could have a bright day at MRP Saturday. Shaw picked up a rather large following last time out at MRP. Simply numbering his car #88 had a significant impact.

A family name synonymous with Sacramento area racing will be represented at MRP Saturday as well. Sacramento’s Steven Tiner will appear. Tiner, who has raced throughout the country recently is the son of 2-time MRP sprint car champion Rich Tiner. Steven came within a lap of scooping up MRP’s Mel Hall Memorial Race in 2012. Problems with lapped traffic in the final lap cost him the victory. So, Steven will be all the more anxious to score at MRP. Steven is “off the hook” fast.
