Wingless Warriors return!
5 divisions at MRP Sat!
By Bob Burbach
Marysville CA - May 28, 2014... Paul and Kathy Hawes’ Marysville Raceway Park will host another rip-roaring 5 division show this Saturday night. It will be “Veteran’s Appreciation Night” at the raceway. The MRP Wingless Warrior Sprint Cars will headline the program. For stock car fans the MRP Super Stocks, Hobby Stocks and MRP Mini Stocks will compete in some more fender bending championship point racing competition. The Pro 4 Sprint Cars will also be on the card.

Veteran Tim Sherman Jr. remains unstoppable in the MRP Wingless Warrior class so far. Citrus Heights’ Sherman has won every race except opening night when a flat tire grabbed him…while leading! Sherman remains very fast and the one to beat. Sherman however was bitten hard by that flat tire and is only 5 points ahead of 2012 champion Brett Youngman of Grass Valley.

Local lady racer Misty Castleberry remains a close 3rd in the standings as Marysville’s Josh Vieira and Wheatland’s Johnny Burns round out the top five. The Wingless Warriors have no aerodynamic devices or wings to glue the power of their 360 cubic inch power plants to the racing surface. In this division, you slide it into the corners at 100 mph and hope it sticks. Some of MRP’s most thrilling and outrageous moments have happened during MRP Wingless Sprint Car events. Car control is always on the ragged edge in this division.

Marysville's Cort and Rick Dozier have been among the fastest in the MRP Super Stock ranks with Rick getting his first-ever win last time out. Yuba City's Hall Brothers, Corey and Brent, had a rough time last time the Supers were at the track and look to change that Saturday. There is only a 3 point spread amongst the first three drivers in the division as former champion Phillip Shelby of Yuba City holds a 1 point edge over Rick Dozier. Corey Hall is third, only 3 points out.

The MRP Mini Stocks will be led by championship point leader Jimmy Ford of Yuba City over opening night winner James Foster of Linda. Yuba City’s Kyle Davey finally visited victory lane last time out. The Davey-Ford-Foster trio has been exciting to watch. 2013 champion Shaun Merritt of Marysville will be back after mechanical gremlins parked him during the last race.

The MRP Hobby Stocks will be offered on Saturday with the Eddie Hammett at the top of the standings. Yuba City’s Jeremy and Miranda Hammons will try to keep the point leader in check. A very close side by side finish last time out has kept railbirds buzzing, and waiting, for this one.

Last year’s champion in the Pro 4 division, Misty Castleberry will look for victory again Saturday night. In this class it’s all pretty simple; she has won every feature event in the class this season and by doing so, is well seeded on top of the point standings.

Gates open at 5pm with racing getting underway at 6:30pm.
