KIDZ NITE at MRP Saturday
headline 5 division show
Marysville CA -
July 16, 2014... It’s one of the best times
of the year at MRP this Saturday. It’s the annual KIDZ
NITE celebration at Paul and Kathy Hawes’ Marysville
Raceway Park Saturday. The mighty MRP Winged Sprint
Cars will return in a 5 division show that features
primary MRP classes. The 2 fendered divisions will
compliment the open wheel madness of the MRP Winged
Sprint Car Series and the MRP Wingless Sprint Cars.
The spectacular action of the MRP Mini Stocks and
Hobby stocks will also be showcased. A return visit of
the 1960s Vintage Hard Tops is also on the card.
All children 12 and under are admitted FREE when
accompanied by adult supervision. It’s a great family
night at the races. There will be a huge number of toy
giveaways during the course of the evening. There will
be bicycle giveaways and lots of goodies for the
youngsters. In addition Mini Soap Box Derby Races will
be held for the youngsters.
Six lucky kids will
be called down to the front stretch to do the
all-important pill draw for starting positions in the
MRP Winged Sprint Car feature. They will be able to
come down on the track and meet the star driver’s
who’ve earned the top six starting positions. Each
child will make the draw on behalf of the qualified
The MRP Winged Sprint Cars will be back
in mid-season form with a more tightly bunched group
of drivers at the top than one might have anticipated
at this time of the season. Paradise driver John
Michael Bunch remains the point leader with Woodland’s
Peter Paulson now in second. Rookie star Jeremy Hawes
of Marysville is in third with Oroville’s Heath Hall
dropping to fourth after a big crash last Saturday
A fine field of the winged cars is
expected. In addition to those mentioned above, three
time champion Brent Dothage of Kelseyville will be
back after his big crash (with Hall) last Saturday
night. Five-time champ Korey Lovell of Yuba City will
return Saturday as well as twin brother Kevin Lovell.
Kevin Lovell, who is starting to climb the
championship point ladder, is a major threat when he’s
not bending wings. In fact, if you add points for an
average finish in place of his two flip over crashes
this season, Kevin Lovell would be just a couple of
points out of the championship point lead.
week’s winner, Marysville’s Brandon Dozier, will be a
formidable opponent as his stock has gone up by leaps
and bounds. Dozier is becoming sprint car eye-candy to
the fans. His win it or wear it performances have been
a fine addition to one of MRP’s most exciting sprint
car seasons in years.
Three time champ Billy
Wallace and fellow Grass Valley resident Jeremy Burt
have been factors in each of the last three seasons
and will be there to challenge for the win.
Another driver who id due in victory lane is 2004 MRP
champion and four-time Montana State champion Mike
Monahan. Monahan pulls to MRP from Sparks Nevada every
week these days. It is a Contingency Connection event
offering significant bonuses to feature event winners.
The MRP Wingless Warriors will return after a
three week hiatus with championship point leader Tim
Sherman of Sacramento leading the way.
five points separate the top three drivers with Grass
Valley’s Brett Youngman only two markers out of the
lead and Marysville’s Josh Vieira three point behind
Youngman. The wingless sprint cars rely on car control
without the benefit of aerodynamic wings. They can be
a little out of control, but it is a thrilling class
The MRP Mini Stocks and the always
controversial MRP Hobby Stocks will also be offered as
slam bang additions to the program.
In the MRP
Mini Stock class there is a tie at the top of the
championship point standings. Linda’s James Foster and
last week’s feature event winner, Yuba City’s Kyle
Davey, are deadlocked at the top. Yuba City’s Jimmy
Ford is only two points out of the top spot as well!
All three have visited victory lane.
week’s controversial fender-banging, wall-slamming
finish in the MRP Hobby Stock feature it may be hard
to find a seat when the big-bad “Hobbys” close out the
show. The Jeremy Hammons-Eddie Hammett rivalry is at
its zenith after last Saturday night. It’s anybody’s
guess how this one will turn out. No one could have
guessed that last week’s feature event winner, Eddie
Hammett of Olivehurst would slide across the finish
line backwards to win! Be sure and stick around for
In addition, the California Hard Tops
will be back for a second run at MRP. Theses 60s style
modified stock cars made a big hit last time out when
bay area sprint car driver Jim Perry jumped into one
roared to a fine win. They are big and clumsy by
today’s standards, but they are an absolute kick to
watch and put on a great show.
So, make your
plans to be at MRP this Saturday night for a wild show
and celebrate the drivers and fans of the future on
KIDZ NITE at the Yuba Sutter area’s only professional
sporting event! Bad fast speeds and fender-crunching
action...and maybe a free bike! What could be better?
The pit gate opens at 3PM. Grandstands open at
